The 9000 was co-developed with the Fiat Croma, Alfa Romeo 164 and Lancia Thema, but with major structural reinforcement to meet Saabs reputation for safety.
in 1992 there was a major facelift where the sheet metal of the hatchback version was changed significantly. Earlier cars have the CC designation and later ones have CS. In 1994 the radio wiring changed from Saab specific connections to ISO.
