The Dodge Brothers started the company in the early 1900s and began building full cars in 1914. In 1920 both brothers died of complications from the Spanish Flu epidemic and by 1928 the company was bought by Chrysler. Ever Since Dodge and other Chrysler group cars have been closely related.

Traditionally Plymouth sat as the entry level brand, with Dodge filling the mid-tier and Chrysler as the luxury marque. Dodge has also been associated with many performance and muscle cars over the years and now has a high performance based range and are the predominant beneficiary of tuning from the SRT subdivision.

In 2010 RAM trucks was spun off as a sub-division and no longer sold under the Dodge brand.

With the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Groupe PSA into Stellantis, Dodge is now part of a much wider group and it is expected that parts and platform sharing with European cars will begin as new models roll out.
