Volkswagen, often abbreviated as VW, is a renowned German automotive manufacturer with history dating back to its founding in 1937 to manufacture the ‘Volkswagen’ or ‘Peoples Car’. Post war the plans for the car that would become the original Beetle were found and the car was pushed into production as a key product to start rebuilding Germany.

The Beetle along with a range of other air cooled vehicles soldiered on until the 70s where their rapidly dwindling popularity left Volkswagen in trouble. Their fortunes were turned around by a series of new front wheel drive vehicles, starting with the 1973 Passat, then the Scirocco and then the most pivotal Golf and Polo.

Throughout its history, Volkswagen has seen global success and has maintained a strong presence in various markets worldwide. The company now owns Audi, Seat, Cupra, Skoda, Porsche, Bentley, Bugatti and Lamborghini with significant sharing of parts and technologies between the different brands.

Today Volkswagen is looking to electrify their line up. They have launched the 100% electric ID range and have electric versions of many of their more traditional cars.
