Daihatsu

Daihatsu, famed for specialising in small cars was the first Japanese manufacturer to sell cars in the UK with the Compagno in 1965.

Since then Toyota became a major shareholder, eventually buying the entire company and many components are shared with Toyota vehicles. Along with Toyota equivalent models to most Daihatsu cars being sold in Japan, they have also licensed technology and designs to Perodua of Malaysia.

Daihatsu ceased exports to Europe in 2013 after falling sales of small cars combined with incoming tougher emissions regulations made it a non-profitable market for them.

Daihatsus tend to be quite simple and built on Toyota based technology with only some components specific to the marque.
