Polestar began in 1996 as a racing team with close ties to Volvo. Volvo later bought the company and made it into their official tuning brand to use on high performance versions of their cars and for racing.

In 2020 Polestar was spun off as as its very own marque, focused entirely on building electric cars and is one of the few to really bring a challenge to Tesla. The first model, the Polestar 1 was an exclusive luxury coupe, built in small numbers, but the subsequent Polestar 2 has been very popular and well received.

The brand is continuing to expand with the Polestar 3 small SUV shown ready for production in 2023.

Polestar use many parts from Volvo cars, but the original radio cannot be changed as the central entertainment screen is a vital part of the vehicles computer system.
